Yet as our social fabric continues to fray, even the most trusted relationships come under strain. It is at the heart of our relationships with our physicians and care teams and an essential foundation for the institution of medicine. ![]() I’ve learned that trust is an asset our health system cannot do without. During two decades as a patient and citizen advocate, I’ve encountered the mistrust that arises when systems that are supposed to protect us cause harm. There’s unprecedented angst, uncertainty, and mistrust. “How can I find a doctor I can trust?” I keep hearing this question-from those feeling confused about a vaccination decision to those looking for an ob/gyn who shares their personal values. We would like to hear about your innovations, ideas, workshops, conferences towards the aim of fostering professionalism to ultimately support excellent patient and family care and health research. This may include a focus on ethics, humanities, education and remediation. Shall we through our on-line newsletter and APHC conferences and events, and as a global community of health providers, educators and researchers in professionalism ‘foster inclusive, trustworthy relationships’ as we explore professionalism in its many facets? That is, how do we foster professionalism in our institutions and units, professional identity formation for various health professions and support sustained commitment to professional intents, actions and words. Your input and feedback to this brief introductory commentary on individual and organizational definitions is welcome. The executive branch bureaucracy is large and unwieldy, and will not automatically shift to do anything a president might want it to do - there are thousands of routine tasks to be completed, and all sorts of competing priorities to attend to. But what the president says in public is important as well. ![]() Do we know all of what Trump is doing behind the scenes? No, although early reports were not promising.
